Description
An elegant French Neoclassical trumeau mirror, its painted grey-cream frame crowned by a projecting, gadrooned cornice in the manner of a classical entablature. The upper panel is centered by a finely carved wheat sheaf trophy rising from a fluted urn, flanked by a pair of sculptural acanthus-leaf scrolls, all set in relief against a contrasting slate-grey ground — a motif closely associated with French Directoire and Swedish Gustavian design traditions symbolizing abundance and harvest. Below, a generous rectangular mirror plate is set within a carved, beaded frame, its aged glass showing lovely soft foxing and patina that speak to genuine age. The architectural silhouette, restrained gadrooned and beaded moldings, and soft, weathered painted surface make this a striking accent for a Gustavian, French country, or Neoclassical interior — ideal above a mantel, console, or commode.
